Managing DNS Records

This article provides instructions on using your SiteWorx account to view/modify the various DNS records for your domain, including:

‘A’: To point a DNS name ("www.example.com") to an IPv4 address.

‘CNAME’: To point a name to another name (i.e. pointing "www.example.com" to "ftp.example.com"). This is desirable in some situations and allows you to set the IP address once for a given record and then point other records to it.

‘MX’: To tell e-mail servers where to deliver your mail. You can set up multiple MX records for a single domain and they will be used to route e-mail based on their corresponding rank.

‘SPF’(Sender Policy Framework Records): To define a set of rules that valid e-mail from a domain will follow. E-mail that is attempted to be sent without following this policy may be rejected, such as e-mail sent with a spoofed domain. Refer to Enabling SPF Records for more information.

Prerequisites

  • An existing SiteWorx account with the appropriate access permissions to modify DNS records. If you are not able to modify DNS records, contact your reseller and ask them to alter the record(s) for you. This would either be Nexcess (support@nexcess.net) or your hosting reseller/system administrator.

Instructions

  1. On the SiteWorx main menu, click Hosting Features > Domains > DNS Records.
  2. Under the Action column, click the View Records link.
  3. To modify a DNS record, click the Edit link for the specific record that you want to change.
A dialog box specific to the type of record that you selected displays the record’s current properties.
  4. Change the properties, as needed, and then click Save.
