Installing WordPress

This article provides step-by-step instructions on installing WordPress (3.3.1) to your hosting account, via SimpleScripts.

Prerequisites

  • An existing SiteWorx account.

Notes

  • These instructions assume that you are installing WordPress for the first time. If you are currently running a previous version of WordPress, and you want to upgrade, log in to SiteWorx and select Hosting Features > SimpleScripts. Under My Installations, follow the instructions for upgrading.
  • As a courtesy, we try to provide the most up-to-date information involving third-party technologies; however, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of such content, nor can we guarantee the performance of the product.
  • During the installation process, you will have the option to have a database automatically created for you. If you prefer to create a database yourself, be sure to do so before installing the application. Refer to Creating a New MySQL Database for instructions on creating a database via your SiteWorx account.

These instructions can also be viewed in this Installing WordPress demonstration video!

Preparing for Installation

  1. Log in to your SiteWorx account.
  2. On the SiteWorx main menu, select Hosting Features > SimpleScripts.
The page redirects to the SimpleScripts Web site.
  3. Under the Blogs heading, click on WordPress.
    SimpleScripts: Select WordPress
Upon clicking the WordPress option, the page redirects to the Install WordPress page.
  4. To begin the installation, click the Install button.
Next, you are presented with a page where you must specify certain settings. As you will notice, each section of the page is labeled with a step number. Continue by following instructions provided in the next section.

Specifying the Installation Settings

Specify the WordPress installation settings, as follows:

Step 1: Installation Preferences

WordPress Installation Preferences

  1. Select the latest (stable) version of WordPress.
Next, you must choose the location where you would like WordPress to be installed. The installation location will be based upon the website address where you wish to access this application. For example, "http://www.example.com/blog".
  2. Enter the directory, within your domain, where you wish to install WordPress. If this directory does not currently exist, it will be created automatically.

Step 2: Advanced Options

The advanced options are optional; however, be advised that if you choose to skip these options, a random Administrator user name and password for WordPress will be generated for you. Also, WordPress will attempt to automatically create a database for you. Therefore, if you want to have more control over how WordPress is set up, you should consider specifying the settings as you want.

  1. To view the advanced options, click the Click here to display > link.
    WordPress Advanced Installation Options
    • A – If you want to assign a custom title for your Web site, enter the desired name in the box.
    • B – If you want to assign your own username and password, leave the check box unselected, and then enter the desired username and password (if you would rather have a username and password generated for you, select the check box and leave the Username and Password boxes empty).
    • C – If you want a database to be automatically created for you, select the check box.

Step 3: Plugins and Themes

WordPress Installation Plugins and Themes

  • (Optional) You can choose to have additional plug-ins and themes installed with WordPress by selecting the check boxes. If you do not wish to have these installed, click to clear (unselect) the check boxes.

Step 4: Legal Information

  1. Click on the GPL v2 license agreement link and review. Select the check box if you accept the agreement.
    WordPress License Agrement
  2. Click Complete.
The page indicates that installation is in progress. Once installation is complete, the information for your WordPress account is presented on the page, including your site URLs, and login information.
