How to find the IP address of a website or server

Overview
This article explains three methods of finding the IP address of your server or website.

Procedures

All three of the following methods can help you locate the IP address of your server or website. However, in some cases, the IP address given in your Welcome Email may not match the IP address given by a lookup service or ping command. This can result from a pending migration, the use of proxy services like CloudFlare, or other reasons.

Check your Welcome Email

We provided your IP address in the Welcome Email you received when first enlisting our services. If you cannot locate this email, then consider one of the other options below or contact our Support Team.

Use a lookup service

We host a global DNS checker on our website. To identify your domain’s IP address, use the following procedure:

  1. In the Domain field, enter your domain name.

  2. In the Record Type list, select A.

  3. Click Lookup.

Use the ping command

If you know how to access your command line or terminal emulator, you can use the ping command to identify your IP address.

  1. At the prompt, type ping, press the spacebar, and then type the relevant domain name or the server host name.

  2. Press Enter.
