How to install dotProject

Download the dotProject package

  1. Navigate to the dotProject download page.

  2. Click Download.

Configure FTP credentials for transferring the dotProject package

Attention: If you already have Nexcess FTP credential, skip to the next section.

  1. With the credentials provided to you in your Nexcess Welcome Email, log in to your SiteWorx control panel.
  2. From the SiteWorx main menu, click Hosting Features > FTP > Accounts.

  3. In the Add an FTP Account section, type an FTP Username, Password, and Confirm Password in the corresponding fields and click Add.
  4. Save these credentials for use later in this procedure.

Prepare dotProject package for transfer

  1. Navigate to the location of the dotProject download.

  2. Right-click on the dotProject zip file, and select Extract All….

  3. Enter the location of the extraction, then click Extract.  

  4. Click the new folder titled dotproject. If another folder displays inside of this one, delete it. 

Connect to the Nexcess server with FTP

Attention: If you do not have a preferred FTP client, follow our guide on working with Filezilla at

  1. Open your FTP client, and in the Host, Username, and Password sections, type in the Nexcess server name, the username and password created earlier within SiteWorx.
  2. In your local computer pane on the left side of your FTP client, locate the unzipped dotProject package.  
  3. The remote computer pane on the right side is the Nexcess server. Navigate to it by clicking the appropriate folders where you want to install dotProject.

  4. Click and drag the dotProject package from your local computer pane to the Nexcess server pane, which starts the file transfer process.

Configure the database

  1. Log in to your SiteWorx account using the credentials provided to you in your Nexcess Welcome Email.
  2. In the SiteWorx main menu, click Hosting Features > MySQL > Databases.

  3. Type a name for your dotProject database in the Database Name field then click Add.

  4. In the Create user field type a name for your database user.  It is recommended this name match the database name.  
  5. In the Password and Confirm Password sections, type a password, or click Generate.
  6. Save the database name, database user and the password for use later in this procedure.  
  7. Verify all of the MySQL User Permissions check boxes are all selected click Add.  

Configure dotProject

  1. Navigate to your domain, along with the path of your dotProject installation.  For example, if your domain is, and your dotProject installation is dotProject, go to:
  2. The first screen displays a configuration check page, click Start Installation.

  3. Type the database name, user name and password in the corresponding fields, and click install db & write cfg.

  4. When complete, you will see the image shown in Figure 8. Log in to your operating system and change the password.
