How to set up FileZilla

Overview
This article provides instructions on connecting to your hosting account using the FileZilla FTP client, v3.5.2.

Notes

FileZilla is a free FTP client available for download from the FileZilla website.

Prerequisites

  • An existing FTP account on your domain
  • Your FTP account login and server information provided in your Nexcess Welcome Email.
  • FileZilla installed on your computer. For download and installation instructions, refer to the FileZilla website.

Procedure 

  1. Launch FileZilla.
  2. Click Site Manager.

  3. Click New Site

  4. Enter the appropriate information for your FTP account:
    1. Host: Typeyour FTP server hostname provided in the Nexcess Welcome Email.
    2. Logon Type: Normal.
    3. User and Password: Type your FTP account user name and password.
  5. Click Connect.
    • If the connection is successful, the screen displays your local root directory on the left side or Local site, and the contents of your hosting account on the right side or Remote site.
    • If connection is not successful, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.
  6.  Refer to How to use FileZilla as necessary.

Troubleshooting

If you are not able to establish a connection, check the following:

  • If your Nexcess Web hosting account is new, your DNS pointing may still be pending. Instead of using your domain name in the Server or URL box, use the temporary FTP host name that was provided to you in the Welcome Email under the section, Your Temporary Domain.
  • The connection may have firewall or proxy issues that can be resolved by changing the transfer setting to "passive" mode. To set passive mode, open Site Manager, click Transfer Settings tab, and then select the Passive option.
  • If you still need assistance, contact the Nexcess Support Team.
